The Lille Grand'Place, historical, cultural and architectural center of the city, is made up of buildings commemorating its past and most of which are listed in the inventory of historic monuments. In its center, the column of the Goddess was installed in 1845 to recall the resistance to the Austrian siege of 1792. Composed of 24 houses surrounding an inner courtyard, it now houses bookshops, shops and florists... Note the profusion of caryatids adorning the pilasters. Opposite, the théâtre du Nord, former guardhouse of the eighteenth century, presents a classical triangular pediment with the sun of Louis XIV and, on either side, the coat of arms of France and Lille.
