Unmissable in Bellegarde

Château d'Arlod is a former 13th century fortified castle which stood in the municipality of Bellegarde-sur-Valserine. It was about 330 meters above sea level, below the old village of Arlod and its church dedicated to Saint Nicolas. The castle was then swallowed up in 1948 during the construction of the Génissiat dam. Its ruins are still visible during the draining of the dam.
