Interesting facts about Chantilly
According to legend, François Vatel, the maître d'hôtel of Louis II of Bourbon-Condé, invented Chantilly cream in 1671. At a banquet in honor of Louis XIV, he didn’t have enough cream for all the guests, so he whipped some of the cream to increase its volume. This is nevertheless a myth. Whipped cream had already been tasted under Catherine de’ Medici in 1650. It was not until the end of the 18th century that the Chantilly appellation was associated with the city by chance and became its specialty.
