Bishop Girard II, founder of the Cathedral Saint-Pierre d'Angoulême, was declared schismatic following his stance in favor of antipope Anaclet in the twelfth century. As a result, his remains were exhumed from the cathedral to be transferred to an unknown location. Subsequently, the faithful exhumed his remains again and took them away in the greatest secrecy. It was not until 2004 that an amateur historian rediscovered the burial. The body was finally relocated to its original place in the choir of Saint-Pierre Cathedral.
