On January 22, the locals celebrate Saint-Vincent with parades, commercial, musical and artistic events. Since 2005, the Fleurs de Vigne festival has gathered around one hundred winemakers from Chablis and Grand Auxerrois on the banks of the Yonne. The event usually takes place on the third Sunday of May. At the end of the year, the city center is transformed into a beautiful Christmas market where local artisans have beautiful gifts for sale.

If the city of Auxerre was founded by the Gauls, it was just a small hamlet of the Yonne valley back then. From the conquest of the region by the Romans, the city took the name of Autricum. Over time, the name of the city took various Latin forms to be called Auxerre from the sixteenth century. Yet the city has kept few vestiges of the Roman era and no trace of the Gallic city remains.
