An interesting story about Saint-Malo

As World War II came to a close, Saint-Malo was qualified as a “ghost town.” And with good reason, because by August 1944, 80% of the historic city had vanished under the barrage of bombs. Integrated into the Atlantic Wall created by Germans, the citadel had been the target of ten days of bombardment…quite excessive, according to reports, since the 10,000 soldiers targeted by the Allies were actually only 150 in number. Reconstruction with original materials to return it to its former glory took nearly three years, a facet of the city’s history described at several locations.
